Financial Group Co.'s first KRW 100 million
The average salary of employees at major banks, which recorded the highest performance in the first half of this year, exceeded 70 million won. It is more than Samsung Electronics (63 million won).
According to the financial sector on the 16th, the average salary per employee of the four major banks (KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori Bank) in the first half of this year was 71.5 million won. If a similar level is received in the second half of the year, the average annual salary of employees at the four major banks will exceed 140 million won. NH Nonghyup Bank, an unlisted special bank, closed its employee salaries.
This is an increase of 12.6% compared to the same period last year (63.5 million won). The average salary of bankers rose to the highest level in 13 years since 2013, when it surged 20.9 percent.
The average salary of a banker is equivalent to that of a semiconductor company that has faced a super boom due to increased demand for artificial intelligence (AI). It was 8.5 million won higher than Samsung Electronics (63 million won) and less than SK Hynix (144 million won), whose salary increased significantly due to rising share prices.
By bank, Shinhan Bank recorded the highest average salary and increase rate as of the first half of this year. Shinhan Bank's average salary in the first half of the year was 75 million won, and the rate of increase was 21%. Woori and Hana Bank (71 million won) also exceeded 70 million won, up 14.5% and 4.4%, respectively, from the same period last year. KB Kookmin Bank rose 11.3 percent to 69 million won.
The average salary of financial holding employees with relatively small number of employees and many high-level executives was about 41% higher than that of bank employees. In the first half of this year, the average salary of employees of the five major financial holding companies (KB, Shinhan, Hana, Woori, and NH Nonghyup) was KRW 108.8 million, up 6.8% from the same period last year (94.4 million won).
It is the first time since Woori Financial Group re-launched in 2019 that the average salary for the first half of the five major holdings exceeded 100 million won.
