HIRA Implements On-Site Occupational Safety Campaign for Foreign Workers
- Providing safety training and hands-on fire response practice for approximately 100 local foreign workers -
The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA), led by President Hong Seung-kwon, carried out an on-site occupational safety campaign on July 29 by visiting the Moonmak, Dongwha, and Woosan Industrial Complexes in Wonju together with the Wonju Fire Station.
This campaign was organized to help foreign workers who have difficulty accessing safety information due to linguistic and cultural barriers raise their awareness of occupational accident prevention and the importance of safety. More than 100 foreign workers of various nationalities, including Cambodian, Uzbek, Sri Lankan, Mongolian, Nepali, and Myanmar nationals, participated in the campaign.
HIRA provided tailored safety training based on frequently occurring industrial accidents and distributed a multilingual safety guidebook to help workers better understand safety rules.
Furthermore, in close coordination with the Wonju Fire Station, HIRA provided training on proper fire response and hands-on practice in the use of fire extinguishers. Through these activities, HIRA strengthened foreign workers’ fire response capabilities and contributed to promoting a culture of occupational safety through collaboration with the relevant local agency.
President Hong said, “I hope this campaign served as an opportunity for foreign workers to access safety information more easily beyond linguistic and cultural barriers and to raise their safety awareness.”
He added, “Going forward, HIRA will continue to promote safety campaigns that encourage participation from people of diverse backgrounds, in cooperation with relevant local organizations, and make every effort to create a safe working environment for all workers.”
