About us
Every day, 119,000 compassionate caregivers serve patients and communities through Providence St. Joseph Health, a national, Catholic, not-for-profit health system, driven by a belief that health is a human right. Rooted in the founding missions of the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, courageous women ahead of their time who brought health care and other social services to the American West when it was still a rugged, untamed frontier, we share a singular commitment to improve the health of all. From our earliest days, we’ve met new challenges by pioneering new solutions. Today, with 51 hospitals, 829 clinics and a comprehensive range of services, we strive to meet the needs of communities across Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington through a diverse family of Catholic, other faith-based and mission-driven secular organizations. Now, as we face a new frontier—a changing health care landscape—we draw upon their pioneering and compassionate spirit to plan for the next century of health for a better world, especially for the poor and vulnerable. If you need treatment, please visit www.providence.org to locate a health care provider.

Hundreds more patients each year will have access to advanced robotic-assisted surgery in Oregon. After performing more than 1,200 robotic surgeries last year, Providence Portland expects to increase that number by approximately 30%, helping more patients benefit from minimally invasive procedures that can lead to faster recovery, greater precision and better outcomes. Made possible through the generosity of donors who support the Providence Portland Medical Foundation, this investment helps meet growing demand for robotic-assisted procedures while equipping caregivers with the latest technology to provide exceptional care. The medical center now has five robotic systems that support surgical and diagnostic procedures across multiple specialties. #RoboticSurgery #SurgicalInnovation #HealthCareInnovation #Innovation #LocalSpotlight

Today at Providence Swedish Issaquah, healthcare leaders came together with Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D., to talk about a growing problem that affects patients, clinicians and hospitals across the country: Medicare Advantage delays, denials, and payment practices. Erik Wexler, president and CEO, put it plainly: when hospitals provide care, they should be paid for that care in a timely and appropriate way. Our hospitals are waiting on roughly $1 billion from commercial payers administering Medicare Advantage plans for care that has already been delivered. That means hospitals are staffing the beds, supporting the clinicians, caring for patients, and carrying the cost — while payments are delayed. Prompt pay is not a paperwork issue. It is a patient care issue. We need a system that works better for patients, respects clinical judgment, and brings real accountability to how taxpayer-funded Medicare Advantage dollars are used. #MedicareAdvantage #HealthcareAdvocacy

Access to dental and vision care remains a significant barrier for many underserved families. Through Providence's support of Pacific University's EyeSmile Outreach Program, families across Oregon and Washington can now access coordinated dental and vision care in a single visit, closer to home. By bringing care directly into communities, EyeSmile helps reduce barriers to care, strengthens connections to ongoing health services and improves access for children and families who might otherwise go without preventive care.
