You are right about emergencies, if you leave your car plugged in and the grid is off, you need to automatically disconnect the house from the grid - otherwise you might kill an electrician fixing the power pole nearby.

I think the biggest issue is that it is only 1 phase. You won't be able to power 2-3phase devices like induction stove tops or electric water heaters.

In my home I can easily use 30kwh daily. A lot of servers ,AC, PC, ventilation, hot tub heating and my 15kwh home battery lasts just enough to not use power during price peaks and most of the night .

Regarding DC, home batteries are also DC and converter is needed (usually included in a hybrid solar converter)
